尊敬的老師，親愛的同學們：
大家好！

今天我演講的主題是《推廣普通話共築中國夢》。


眾所周知，普通話作為我們漢民族的共同語言，必將成為現代漢語的代表，而世界上又有四分之一的人使用漢語。因此，學好普通話，將是我們與他人溝通的一把金鑰匙，我們的道德、修養、文化都將在普通話中得以充分展現。


一個國家，一個民族都需要一個完整規范的民族語言，而中國作為一個多民族語言的大國，自然需要民族語言。普通話作為多年來實行的各民族共同語，已經以本身的運用性證明了其存在的必要性。


講好普通話，能提高我們的綜合素質，陶冶愛國情操。可是在校園里大家對普通話的重視還遠遠不夠。普通話是我們日常交流的工具，是文明與進步的象徵。我們中國是一個多民族國家，每個民族、地區都有自己的方言，試想：如果你與一個使用著你完全聽不懂的方言的人來交談，會怎麼樣呢？是面面相覷？還是怒目相視？如果我們人人都說普通話，人人都使用文明的用語，那麼又會怎麼樣呢？結果是不言而喻的。


縱觀全球，世界各國「孔子」學院極受歡迎。外國掀起漢語熱，漢語潮。也說明了中國文化對世界的影響力。像央視的《漢語橋》等節目在國外有著非常高的收視率。漢語走向世界，中國走向世界，中國成為世界的焦點，普通話將會成為世界流行語之一。作為一個地道的中國人，還有什麼理由說不好普通話？


由此可見，普通話對於現如今的生活有著多麼大的影響，因此，我們應大力的推廣普通話並學習普通話！讓我們的「文明之邦」「禮儀之邦」插上「普通話」這一騰飛的翅膀，放飛夢想……


心，因為有方向，所以才執著；方向，又因為有夢，所以才飛翔。21世紀是個競爭的世紀，我們的學習和生活都離不開普通話，我們應從漢語拼音開始練習，發好平舌捲舌音等，多和普通話準的人交流，每天堅持說，持之以恆，方能見效。只有掌握普通話這把鑰匙，才能游刃有餘的馳騁在職場上，把握各種機遇，成為精英，為築建中國夢揮灑自己的熱血！

在這里，我要說：讓我們說好普通話吧！它是我們中華民族的聲音！它是世界上最美的語言！

I still remember the day, a day in the summer of 2001, when every member of my family was sitting in our living room, with eyes fixed on the television. We were waiting for an important result to be announced, a result that all Chinese people had been expecting for years, a result as to which city will be hosting the 2008 Olympic Games.

When the last seconds came, the air was suddenly frozen still, and no one would make any sound, counting for the envelope to be opened. (PAUSE)

Beijing! With the declaration from Mr. Samaranch, every corner of China is cheering, from the tropical islands to the snow-capped mountains, from the rice paddies in the Yangtze valley to the oases in Xinjiang Gobi. Every piece of land is proud of what China has accomplished. Of all the people, men and women, young and old, factory workers, farmers, college professors, government officials, everyone is full of joy for the world』s most important event to be held in China in 2008.

Looking back into history, China has always been world-famous for its technology and culture.

It is China that has the advanced technologies, known as block printing, the making of gun powder, and the compass, which further propelled the development of civilization.

It is China that has the splendid culture, polished by the wisdom of ancient philosophers, which is now shining in the world.

Every culture had its share of bad luck, leaving Misfortunes torturing this ancient oriental nation. The corruption of the feudal system brought the down-fall of the once-great Chinese empire, and led to invasions of foreign nations. Hard times those were, bringing poverty and disorder to this land. Only through the persistent effort of its lovely people did it enre all that hardship. Today China is finally earning increasing respect from all nations and taking its well-deserved position in the world.

And what could prove that more, than being permitted to host events like the Olympics?

Today China shares one dream with the world --- freedom and equality of all the people in the world. We have to admit that there are still wars, floods, diseases, and hunger. All those evil things are punishing human beings for the sins they have committed. But unfortunately those who suffer are often the innocent who have nothing to do with all this. It is the dream of China and the world to put an end to it. This dream rings from the freezing poles, this dream rings from the heightening caps of the Himalayas, this dream rings from the islands in the Pacific, this dream rings from the pyramids in the middle of the desert, but not only that, this dream rings from the black forest in the center of Europe, this dream rings from the Ayer』s rock in the outback from Australia, this dream rings from the cape of good hope, this dream rings from the stone houses in machu pichu. From every corner of the world, let this dream ring!!

The Olympics is not only a sports meeting of the world』s best athletes, but also one of the greatest inventions of mankind, to bridge international communication, and to bring peace and hope to all the souls living on this lovely planet.

So with this dream and the Olympic spirit, our fellow brothers and sisters, no matter whether they are black or white, Catholics or Protestants, Jews or gentiles, can join hands and hold up the sky of tomorrow.

(So not only let the Chinese people alone anticipate the 29th Olympics, but let everyone, whether they are black or white, Catholics or protestants, Jews or gentiles, let every one look forward to the best Olympics that will ever be hosted! )

Giving is Receiving—Personal Growth in Volunteer Work

第十二屆「21世紀·聯想杯」全國英語演講比賽冠軍

Last summer, I volunteered to work as an English teacher in a primary school for children of migrant workers. To be accurate, I didn』t volunteer. I was dragged in. When my friends first hit upon the idea of this project, I was all against it: 「What? To spend my vacation standing in the heat, yelling at a bunch of nine-year-olds who couldn』t even speak proper Putonghua? After all, there』s no pay for my toil. No, I』m not going.」 But my friends twisted my arms to have me join them.

Unexpectedly, the first lesson I taught turned out a lesson for me. The moment I stepped into the shabby classroom, I was touched by the loud, respectful voices in unison: 「Good morning, teacher!」 Instead of fooling around, the children were thirsty for knowledge and efficient in absorbing everything I was able to give them. I started to blame myself because I hadn』t even prepared for the class. During the break, I leaned over the squeaky desk, chatting with a sweaty boy in the front row: 「Without air-conditioning, it』s pretty hot here. Are you tired?」

「Not at all,」 said he, shaking his head. 「It』s fine here. My Dad builds asphalt roads. That is really tiring and hot.」

As summer advanced, my enthusiasm as a teacher grew. I prepared my teaching carefully and even used some methods my teachers used. I organized many group activities to give the kids fun. Strangely enough, the heat was also becoming less and less unbearable.

Soon, my one-month volunteer work came to an end. When I was leaving my last class, I turned back and saw smiling faces and waving hands. Never before had I ever had such a feeling of sadness, which was nevertheless mixed with a sense of enrichment, fulfillment and happiness. I was paid for my work, amply paid, not in terms of money, but something more valuable.

My English was improved. I was able to teach it, although not very professional.
I learned about the grassroots-level society. Inside myself a heart is growing, a heart that not only beats for myself, but cares for others as well. The volunteer work gave me a precious little chance to say thanks to people like the little boy』s father, who construct highways and undergrounds, build up modern skyscrapers, and make our cities more and more beautiful. To help the children with their English was all I could do at present to show my gratitude to these unsung heroes. The world may not have been fair to them, so people like me are obliged to do whatever we can to help make their life better. Whatever I do for them, however, I know it cannot be compared with what they have done to improve the quality of life in our cities.

Ladies and gentlemen, now I realize that volunteering is not just a one-time personal experience. It should be a lifetime activity of everybody. Many of us are now offering our assistance to the needy and to each other. Our efforts have indeed made a difference. Whether we are helping children with their schooling, or caring for the elderly in nursing homes, or helping out with 2008 Beijing Olympics, we will not only contribute to the harmony of the world but also elevate ourselves. Emerson once said, 「It』s one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.」 He was right.

I hear that my university is going to organize another voluntary teaching program this summer. This time I won』t be dragged in. I will volunteer.
