學校和教堂門外的長龍便是答案。排隊的人數之多，在美國歷史上前所未有。為了投票，他們排隊長達三、四個小時。許多人一生中第一次投票，因為他們認為這一次大選結果必須不同以往，而他們手中的一票可能決定勝負。
